Edinburgh Music Centre supplies the world renowned Vandoren Traditional Saxophone Reed, which are still the most popular Vandoren reeds, worldwide and are used by professionals and students alike. These French filed reeds produce an extremely pure sound due to the very thin reed tips, which is the area of the reed with maximum vibration.
The traditional range of Vandoren reeds are individually wrapped to protect them from humidity and temperature changes and are in boxes of 5 for tenor reeds and 10 for alto reeds. The Edinburgh Music Centre supplies reeds from 1 - 3.5 in increments of 1/2 with 1 being the weakest and and 3.5 being the strongest. The choice of reed strength depends on the standard of the player. Strength 1 reeds are made thinner and therefore weaker, allowing the player to get a note easier without squeaking but there is a loss in sound and intonation. However, it can be more difficult to achieve a note with a 3.5 reed but the tone and ability to stay in tune is much greater. All the reeds between these extremes work on a sliding scale based on these principles. If you are unsure which reed would suit you best then please contact the Edinburgh Music Centre.

Edinburgh Music centre is the expansion of Brass and Woodwind musical instrument restoration and repair est 2002.
Having studied orchestral instrument restoration in 1995 for 3 years and a further 4 years apprenticeship, I opened Brass and woodwind in a small workshop in south west Edinburgh.
We have grown and now have 3 workshops for brass woodwind and string instruments, along with chemical and ultrasonic cleaning room and a pro polishing room, I believe it to be the finest and best equipped musical instrument restoration workshop in the UK.
We have built a showroom for the huge range of instruments we have restored over the years and now offer a large selection of new and fully reconditioned instruments.
